“Voyage under draw bridges”
Every night on the Neva River in St. Petersburg, the bridges are raised. This is a unique spectacle, possible only here, in the former Imperial capital.
We'll admire the night city from the water, see the cruiser 'Aurora' in night illumination, and together with a hundred other vessels, we'll see how the Palace, Annunciation, and Trinity bridges are raised.
Every night in St. Petersburg, there is a celebration incomparable to anything else. It's the nightly raising of the bridges, which hundreds of boats from all over the city gather to watch. All the embankments are filled with spectators, and in the Neva, a procession forms of those wishing to see the drawbridges from a boat, yacht, or motor ship.
At 1:10, the Palace Bridge is the first to open its spans; 10 minutes later, the Trinity and Annunciation bridges (located on either side of the Palace Bridge) are also raised, and large cargo ships and barges begin to move along the Neva. It is primarily for them that the bridges are raised. Yes, that's how it is – all this beauty is not for us).
In fact, it's for us too. And also for us is all the illumination of nighttime St. Petersburg, and during the white nights period (from mid-May to mid-July), there's also a glow on the horizon. It's an extraordinary sight – to watch the drawbridges from a boat, and then see how the sun rolls beyond the horizon and begins to rise again by 2 AM.
A note on the topic: after the bridges are raised and 1:30 arrives – the ship passage officially begins. This is the time when water excursions on the Neva are suspended, and large ships travel along the Neva. During this period, crossing the central waterway of St. Petersburg is prohibited, which means that wherever you dock, you stay there until morning.
In the voyage under the drawbridges, we will not only admire the bridges but also look at the night city. Depending on where the chosen boat is located, the night excursion through the canals of St. Petersburg will take place in the city center, and we will view the historical part and artistically illuminated facades of buildings from the water, or we will go out into the mirror-smooth Gulf of Finland (usually at night the wind dies down and there are beautiful reflections on the water), with the stadium, the lights of the speed diameter, and the Lakhta Center. One of the pillars of Russian culture. An academy that has produced a host of artists and creators. The embankment in front of it is decorated with two sculptures of three thousand-year-old stone sphinxes from the tomb of Amenhotep III.
Peter and Paul's fortress
The central building and the main building of St. Petersburg. It all started from here.
Cruiser "Aurora"
A cruiser that became a symbol of the victory of the Great October Revolution in 1917. One of the symbols of St. Petersburg.
Summer garden
